The National Theatre of Latvia: Modern solutions in a historical building

The National Theatre of Latvia was founded in 1919. and is a state repertory theatre focused on preserving, developing, and popularising national values and Latvian original dramaturgy. It has been in continuous operation for 105 years and is a vital component in strengthening Latvian language and culture.

The National Theatre of Latvia is committed to environmental sustainability by developing their digital solutions and waste and energy management on a day-to-day basis. Participating in the “Greenstage” project is a natural step for the theatre because over the past five years the theatre has implemented initiatives to reduce waste and energy usage by sorting garbage, using energy-efficient lighting, restructuring their document circulation, and critically reviewing production costs and materials.

One of the National Theatre of Latvia success stories is the implementation of the digital planning system “Lydian” and the electronic documentation system “Namejs” in their daily work that helps with reducing a large amount of physical paper being wasted in printing plans, graphs, contracts, and other documents.

“Lydian” is a great tool that makes communicating with the theatre's more than 180 employees much easier and faster. Digital planning and organisational tools provided by this app serve as mobile information storage for each and every one in the theatre. Accessible via computer, tablet, phone, or a smart screen with an easy to use interface, the app since its implementation has saved up a lot of unnecessary wasted paper that previously was used to print individual plans and schedules.

“Namejs” is an in-depth electronic documentation system that, linked together with other applications, provides a vast variety of digital tools for servicing contracts, agreements, and different kinds of legal documents. It not only provides cybernetic and juridical safety but also sets the users free from using printed paper documents, ensuring a much more ecological alternative.
