The Municipality of Mantova has been conducting awareness-raising practices on environmental sustainability in recent years.

To reach this goal, the Municipality has involved theatre companies to engage and raise citizens' awareness through art and culture with a process that seeks to inform, educate people, and influence their attitudes and behaviour.

In July 2022, "Bestiali” by Teatro Magro was staged in the streets and squares of the centre of Mantova. A large aviary was created with several performer birds to reflect on biodiversity and the relationship between man and nature. The purpose of the performance was to raise awareness about the issue of climate change. This performance was part of the project "MN My-Nature - I cittadini si riappropriano della natura" funded by Fondazione Cariverona. 

Another example was the performance "Voci dal Bosco" by Teatro Selvatico that took place in April 2023 in the splendid historic background of Palazzo Te, one of the most famous symbols of the city. It was a comic, poetic, and immersive experience into the wild and vegetal dimension in which trees speak and participate in the creation of new worlds. This performance was part of the C-Change Festival, dedicated entirely to addressing environmental protection against the ongoing climate crisis through cultural and creative means.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy that the Municipality of Mantova is carrying forward to achieve sustainable goals in the cultural and creative sectors both at the local and transnational level.
