Bunker: Thinking ecology through art
Bunker started introducing the theme of ecology into their work more than 20 years ago. The opening points were the first public discussions about the ever more present threat of climate change, where there were artists, sociologists, philosophers, and eco scientists discussing the issues – but not all of them being on the same side.
The theme of ecology became more prominent in Bunker's work through collaboration with numerous Slovene and European artists who were tackling the theme in their works, which Bunker produced, among them were Beton Ltd. Collective, Maria Lucia Cruz Correia, Silke Huysmans & Hannes Dereere, Robertina Šebjanič …, and through involvement in various European networks, which include Imagine 2020 – Art and Climate Change, On Thin Ice, ACT: Art, Climate, Transition.
In artistic collaborations with Bunker, the artists have brought up several angles of looking at ecological issues and dealing with the relations between humans, their environment, and nature. One of these artists is Tery Žeželj, a research artist and dramaturg who created a two year artistic research titled Multispieces Landscapes. Her research is not only inspired by the concept of the holobiont as an object of thought that disables thinking through individual categories, but also focuses on the body as a porous environment of various organisms that are enabling life. She created a performative walk, a portal for reading the landscape, a workshop, a dinner of liquid tales, a lecture, and a performance, all opening the theme of ecology of various (fragile) relations between living beings.
